First, I want to thank everyone who took the time to write and share good wishes, after reading about Kai’s surgery in last week’s Artellagram. I’m happy to share that the surgery went very well, and he’s back at home, recovering beautifully. Here he is, visiting a local pumpkin patch, with just a little bit of residual swelling leftover. :-) I’m amazed at his resilience, and I’m equally amazed at the kindness and generosity from our extended Artella family. Thank you so very much for your beautiful affection for this little boy whom you’ve never even met…and for sending him your love.
Several months ago, our family had dinner with some new friends -- two darling toddlers and their wonderful parents. As we were all saying our goodbyes, the little girl hugged Kai so hard that he fell over. It surprised him so he cried a bit, even though he wasn't at all hurt. Later, we were talking with Kai about our fun evening and how much love his new friends gave him, and he said, "Toooooo much! Tooooo much love!" And it was, indeed, just too much for Tony and me to control our laughter at Kai, as he articulated his experience of "too much love".
Since then, “too much love” has become part of our family lexicon, and Tony and I have continued to joke about it. Toddler-generated humor aside, I actually don’t think there can be such thing as “too much love”; not when the love is pure. I think love is like looking in a kaleidoscope; as we focus on a single object, the image magically expands into a dazzling infinity of patterns and colors. When we look through the kaleidoscope, our capacity to SEE suddenly changes completely. And when we love, our capacity to LIVE suddenly expands in infinite ways.
We all have had experiences when we are permeated by love, and life suddenly becomes crystal-clear. The trouble is maintaining that perspective when the intense experience passes, and we find ourselves back in our day-to-day lives, where it becomes all too easy to get caught up in the affairs of the day, and lose sight of what really matters most ultimately. Of course, what really matters is never how hard we have worked, or how much we have gotten done, or even how much we have served the rest of the world around us. I think as we get older, life makes it very clear to us that what really matters most at the end of our lives here on earth, is not what we owned or accomplished, but how much we really loved.
On this coming Thursday, October, I'm presenting a free teleclass called The Awe of Attraction: Using the ARTbundance™ Principles to Break the "Law" and Find the Love. In this class, we’ll use art and creativity to explore many different ways to ignite the power of love, all of which kaleidoscopically multiply our capacity to experience love even more.
The "loves of our lives" can be hiding in unusual places. I invite you to join me to design a new kind of ka-love-ascope through which we can find them…as we explore the world anew in a graceful, colorful, AWEsome light. You can get all the fun details under the "News" section further down below.
For those short on time, to simplify this week's Artellagram, here are some ”quick links” to the highlights in this edition. You can simply follow the links that you're interested in and go directly to that section.

For today's "In the Studio" Interview, I'm delighted to present an interview with Certified ARTbundance™ Coach Sheryl Allen.
Sheryl is a walking kaleidoscope; she shines her color and light everywhere she turns! I know you will enjoy getting to know Sheryl!
Artella: What led you to become a Certified ARTbundance™ Coach? Sheryl: Marney set a wonderful example of combining her love of art and words into a successful internet business and I’ve been wondering how I could combine my passions for creativity, writing, personal growth and health. When she shared the ARTbundance™ program, I knew I wanted to participate. I’ve done a lot of personal growth work and including art and words was a new, fun way to learn more about myself and how I share my gifts and talents with the world. Artella: How has your ARTbundanceTM training affected your work and/or life? Sheryl: It has helped me see how important creativity is to me in my everyday life and work — I knew I loved to create but did not realize it was a necessity rather than a luxury. Also, having some personal challenges, I put being creative aside — ARTbundance™ got me creating again. I also learned a lot about coaching rather than facilitating or teaching and feel it’s much more empowering for my clients. Marney is a master at asking the right questions and guiding people to the innate wisdom within. I feel I am getting better at it all the time. I also find it easy to quickly find clarity by choosing and completing an Archaeology ARTsignment.

In the Artella e-course, the AlphaBetter Muse Workshop: 26 Inspiring Art Journaling Muses for All-Around BETTER Living!, the Muse who “teaches” the lesson for the letter “O” is named “Overexposed Muse”. In photography, overexposure is when a subject is literally flooded in light. While overexposure may be a negative thing in Hollywood, when it comes to leading a rich, creative life here in the real world, I think that surrounding yourself with light is nothing but positive! The purpose of Overexposed Muse’s lesson is to encourage us to study what brings light into our lives, and explore how we can bring MORE light into our lives, to truly flood our souls in the most positive way possible. To represent “Overexposed Muse”, I created a piece to celebrate my friend Pattie Mosca, an amazing artist who is one of the most luminous people I've ever met! I had several photos of her, and I created this piece as a surprise to her. You might want to try something similar, and create a project to flood some light on a friend who might need it. You could also use pictures of yourself, as a special way to honor and “illuminate” yourself. This is an easy “hybrid” project that combines paper and digital art, and even absolute beginners in digital art can have great results. Here are steps for making your own "Overexposed Muse": - Select the images that you will "overexpose". I used a handful of photographs of my friend Pattie. You might use photos of yourself, or any images that inspire you and remind you of your own light within!
- In Photoshop, intensify the Brightness of each image, and then adjust the Hue for each image, so that each image is a slightly different color.
- Print out the images, and place them inside film reel frames. The ones I used were scrapbooking embellishments available at a craft store.
- Select a background paper. Mine is a fun polka-dotted design. Adhere the film reel frames to the background paper. I used fun “Fasternator” staples to attach the frame to the background.
- Add text, if you like. I spelled out "Overexposed Muse: Her Luminosity Blows Out the Cameras" with fun stickers. I outlined the stickers with marker, to make them stand out a bit more.
- For some final sparkle, add a few little gem decorations around the page.
For the writers out there, writing about “overexposure” is another fun way to explore this topic. Here are a few prompts to get you started…
- What role do "light" and "darkness" play in your life?
- Is it easy for you to "see the light" in difficult situations? Why or why not?
- When you think of the quality of lightheartedness, who comes to mind?
- If your life and your very essence were "flooded with light", what might that look like?
- Is there a "light" in your life that you are not fully seeing? What are the "bright spots" in your life that you are overlooking, or taking for granted?
