ARTELLAGRAM 4-24-09:
Art Tip:
"Dreamy" Art

(This project is continued from the April 25, 2009, Artellagram...)

This piece is one of the Muses from Artella's AlphaBetter Muse Workshop.

I wanted to create a dreamy feel for this Muse. The secret is tissue paper! Here are the steps for how to create this piece:

1. Select an image for your Muse. Prepare it for printing by making any necessary adjustments (i.e, size, orientation) in photo editing software.

2. To print on tissue paper, you will need tissue paper, freezer paper, and an iron. Start by heating the iron on medium. Place the tissue paper on the shiny side of the freezer paper. Iron the entire surface and the tissue paper will adhere to the freezer paper. (Tip: test a small piece first, in case you need to adjust the heat of the iron).

3. Cut the freezer paper/tissue paper combo into a size that will go through your printer.

4. Print your image onto the freezer paper/tissue paper, just as you would print normally.

5. Allow the image to dry, then carefully peel off the freezer paper. Go slow — the tissue paper can tear. When the freezer paper is removed, you will be left with your image printed beautifully on tissue paper.

6. Determine your background. I picked two contrasting designs in black and white (to subtly symbolize "night" and "day"). Remember that you will be able to see the background through the tissue paper image.

7. Adhere the tissue paper to the background. I used a Xyron machine, but you can use any adhesive you like.

8. Add other embellishments to the piece, as desired. I used stickers to spell out "ZZZ Muse — She Lives In Dreams" against a black, heavy-textured paper, and I added a quote at the top.

9. Outline the key images, if you like. I used a navy blue glitter marker to loosely outline all of the main elements on the page.
