ARTELLAGRAM 3-28-09: Art Tip:
Asymmetry in Art
(This project is continued from the March 28, 2009, Artellagram...)
Here is how I created this piece, which incorporated the concept of "asymmetry" in many ways!
To create the background, I rubber stamped a botannical design (which appealed to me, since it was asymmetrical) on purple cardstock randomly and cut the paper into two pieces. I then created a block pattern for the background, alternating the stamped background with handmade paper
I looked for body parts in magazines that would be fun to mix-n-match. I played with some different combinations, until I found one I really liked. I glued the pieces together, and then glued the figure to the background.
Then added three-dimensional accents: an asymmetrical arrangement of colorful buttons, and a beautiful glass tile with the letter "A" (this glass tile was created by Rita Shaler Nelson, and her letter tiles are available here, in The Shoppes of Artella).
I scanned the piece and added the text digitally, in Photoshop. I entered the letter "E" on a separate layer so it could be raised from the others.
When it comes to creating mix-n-match, asymmetrical figures, the possibilities are endless!
