ARTELLAGRAM 12-10-08:
Art Tip:
Winter Image Transfers
Instructions

(This project is continued from the December 10, 2008, Artellagram...)

Artist: Arthiss Kliever

Here are the steps for creating this page, using gel medium to create an image transfer:

1. Using your inkjet printer, print the image you want to transfer onto Image Flow paper. You can also make a photocopy using a toner-based copy machine.

2. Brush gel medium onto the "receiving" surface (in this case, the book page) as evenly as possible. Test for even application by lightly smoothing over the medium with your index finger, feeling for dry or very wet areas. For little texture, make the coat very thin; for greater texture, you can build up the medium.

3. Check for the inked side of the image and lay onto wet surface. The transparency will stick to the surface. If the surface is too wet, it may slide and smear. Immediately begin to rub the entire surface with your finger or a spoon, starting in crucial areas like faces and words. Use a very steady hand to keep the image still as you burnish. Once the entire surface is in contact, you can adjust pressure in some areas to ensure even transfer or less in other areas for a softer effect.

4. Slowly lift the page, starting in a corner, to expose the wet gel medium that has "taken" the image. Allow to dry completely.

5. Add other elements to your altered book page, as desired.
