Denise Mihalik

chakra

i am purple
deep
knowing
knowing and rich
mixed to scream
I GET IT at you

i am royal

i am
blue
like the sea
and the waves
rollin and swayin
waves
that carry you
move you
take you to
that place

i am peace

i am turquioise
liquified
crystal
wieghtless
the flow
the slow
the glide

i am grace

i am
green
and lush
full bodied
mature
vibrant
viridian
present

i am life

i am the yellow
that glows
from the window
in my mind
warm
sweet
intoxicating
invitation

i am freedom

i am
orange
alive
juicy
tastyfresh
fertile
succulent
wanton

i am desire

i am
red
and
i am learning

Reflections of the Dance

I am
soft ballet slippers
with a split sole
comfortable
natural
with a classical low vamp
elastic
hugging the arch
dreaming of white satin dyed to the desired color
finest design combining quality, performance and fashion
dreaming of white satin dyed to the desired color
hugging the arch
elastic
with a classical low vamp
natural
comfortable
with a split sole
soft ballet slippers
I am

Wanderlust

My wanderlust has been rekindled
It flared and shone so bright.
Though I had hoped it might have dwindled
It glared again last night.

I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t rest
My mind was far away.
Racing, running way out west
And far beyond today.

The wind has come, it’s calling me,
“You’ve waited far too long”
I cry that here I’m happy
The wind, it must be wrong.

Nonetheless it still demands
That I should ride again.
Travel more to foreign lands
And leave my cozy den.

A seed of doubt it plants within
I know I’ll leave tonight.
My heart is gone from where it’s been
It’s up and taken flight.

My future lies upon the road
And I must now be gone.
For even though my soul forebode
I vowed to carry on.

The wanderer’s road is mine to take
But should I stop too long
I must admit my heart will break
So goodbye! I must go on.

FOURTH PLACE WINNER

Julie Peterson

My Purple Friend

Just a little poem to let you know
You do so much that makes me happy
You take me on pleasure outings
You understand when I feel crappy

You accept my kids however they act
You don't care if my house is a mess
You know about dog hair and doodoo
If I'm frumpy you think of me no less

I can have a super bad hair day
Or grumble, curse and brood
Yet you don't ever criticize me
Instead you feed me comfort food

You can keep a juicy secret
You can take a tasteless joke
You know how to have some fun
Even when we're kind of broke

You sing funny songs in the morning
And know how to bake creative cakes
When or where there's fun to be had
You'll be the one to do what it takes

You have great taste in seafood
You build a wicked tall paper pile
You don't care for stuff that's trendy
Because you have such classic style

If friendship could be measured
Scientifically in temperature degrees
With you around I could be sure
There is no way I would ever freeze

So thanks for being toasty warm
And even sizzling hot but never cold
And thanks (way way far) in advance
For wearing purple when we're old
